CARY -- Freshman standout Halima Hasan tallied her second hat trick of the season and four of her teammates also netted goals as the Research Triangle girls' soccer team dispatched Neuse Charter 8-2 on Friday afternoon at WakeMed Soccer Park.
Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time this year, the Raptors (3-2) got out to a 3-0 lead in the first half, with Hasan scoring all three goals to bring her NCAC-leading total on the young season to 9. Two of them were on crosses from fellow forward Sierra Street, and the third was scored when senior midfielder Ayanna Darden blasted a shot into the box from 25 yards out that the Neuse keeper misplayed right to Hasan, who put it in the left hand corner of the net.
The Cougars (1-2-1) would manage two second half goals but proved no match for RTHS's offense, led in the second frame by two goals from senior Cassie Mills (6), and one goal apiece from Street (5), Morgan Davis (2), and Mariah Damon (1). Hasan tallied an assist in the second half on Mills' first goal, and Mills and Odalis Larios also had helpers in the game's final minutes.
RTHS will return to conference play on Monday when they host East Wake Academy at WakeMed Soccer Park in a game that will feature the two leading goal scorers in the NCAC this season - Hasan and Eagles senior forward Gaby Toussaint. Kickoff is set for 4:30.
