THE WEEK THAT WAS...
The boys' soccer team rebounded from their home loss to Franklin Academy last Friday night by tallying two road wins last week - a 10-0 drubbing of Vance Charter followed by a gutsy 4-2 win over Thales Academy on Friday afternoon in Apex. Sophomore forward Yousif Sirriyah continues to drive the offense for the Raptors (4-1), leading the team with 8 goals while senior striker Travis Barker has added 4.
The volleyball team dropped two home matches - a straight-sets decision to East Wake Academy on Monday night followed by a 3-1 loss to River Mill in the team's Central Tar Heel opener on Thursday night. Senior libero Morgan Davis leads the team in both kills and digs, while sophomore setter Caroline Wendelburg leads the team with 14 aces.
The third season of RTHS girls' tennis kicked off Wednesday with a 6-3 loss to former NCAC foe Roxboro Community. Despite losing all three doubles points, the team picked up singles wins from Diane Gildehaus, Reeha Nidamarty, and Grace Ulanch.
Cross country also got underway on Saturday at the Wendell Park Early Bird Invitational hosted by East Wake High School. The girls' team placed 2nd in the championship race, with freshman Tori Swepson (20:28) taking home the individual title and sophomore Caroline Foley (21:42) placing 3rd. On the boys' side, the team's freshmen and sophomores won the open race behind a 3rd place finish by freshman Milan Desai (19:56) and two other newcomers, Cole Houck and Josh Lewis, in the top 10.
